Try your hand at sketching, drawing, painting, leather work, jewelry making, clay, paper crafting and pottery. Do something you have always wanted to do-learn how to throw on the pottery wheel to make your own bowls, plates and cups! Hand build boxes, sculpt animals and hang out with other potters every Monday evening. You'll love it! Families welcome!

*Tuition includes a monthly supply fee of $10 which the McKinney Art House will use to purchase ceramic supplies such as Glaze for pottery classes.

**A deposit of $50 goes towards the last 2 classes of your tuition. If you decide to stop the class at any time,  you must  notifiy no later than two weeks in advance else you will lose the deposit. We have a waiting list, in most cases, and/or turn people away because of limited space. Knowing you will discontinue 2 weeks in advance helps get your spot filled.

If you enjoy drawing in pen and ink, then this is the class for you! All levels of skill are welcome! We will be drawing different subjects each week of class. These subjects will range from animals, planes, cars, people and more in order to expose students to a wide variety of matter.
Students will be introduced to different drawing techniques, pen exercises, illustrative styles, and will learn how to draw objects from basic forms and thumbnails and turn them into finished illustrations. This will take place in a fun and relaxed environment!

During this class we will sculpt and learn all basics of ceramic and mosaics. Students will learn the various ways of creating functional and sculptural pottery objects, with different handbuilding techniques including slabs and coils.

Ms Pinon classes are based in the TExES domains and competencies, following the curriculum and standards of the TEA.

The student will learn:

Art Perception—developing abilities to organize ideas from the environment.

Creative expression/performance—developing the ability to express ideas in original works of art.

Historical/cultural heritage—developing understanding of art from a variety of cultures and historical periods.

Ms Pinon comprehensive art curriculum will be conceptually based, sequentially developed and focused on both creative and critical thinking to enable students to become self-confident, self-governing, and contributing members of society.

Students will learn to make cups, bowls, and any other forms they can dream up, using various methods including throwing on the wheel and hand building with coils or slabs. Basic skills will be emphasized for beginners and as students progress they can choose their own projects while continuing to build their skills. Come ready to get muddy! Meet with Cate Robbins for individualized art instruction in small group studio settings. Cate has a Master's Degree in Painting from Texas Woman's University. This is a general study in painting and drawing that includes composition and techniques in a variety of mediums. Instruction is based upon each student's age, skill level, and goals. 
Classes are designed to introduce new students to the skills required to accurately render what they see and for the more advanced artist to gain some visual and creative practice in drawing and painting that will enhance any artistic endeavors. The class objective is to provide the "tools" necessary to draw and paint with confidence and to develop within the student the ability to see the world the way artists' see. From there, assignments lead the student to express their own individual creativity.
Supply needs for the class will vary according to the individual students' curriculum needs. Adults will provide their own supplies as needed for working in class and at home. Tuition for the full month is due at the first class of each month. Arrangements for missed classes are easily made up but are the student's responsibility to schedule.
