Lisa LaBarge - aka Mrs. Potts
Potter/Owner – Mrs. Potts Place
Lisa LaBarge, originally from Minnesota, (but, as they say, got to Texas as quickly as she could!) has always loved anything creative. She believes everyone has an artist inside, that often just need the right encouragement and inspiration, the skills needed can be mastered to create wonderful things.
She began her journey in clay because her youngest son insisted she take a pottery class with him. He kept saying, “Mom, you would really love this!” With the support of her family, she grew her skills and began teaching others the wonder of clay.
Lisa taught classes as an independent instructor for several years, before opening The McKinney Art Studio & Gallery in downtown McKinney in 2015.There, she offered classes in ceramics and a variety of other mediums, and opened her studio to various events and guest artists. She served on the board of directors and as art director for Empty Bowls McKinney for 2 years. She helped develop a ceramics program at Cornerstone Ranch in 2018 for special needs adults. 2020 brought many changes as the world experienced the COVID 19 pandemic. Lisa decided to move the studio to Celina and rename it “Mrs. Potts’ Place”, where she continued to teach and create until December 2023.
Teaching others is a way to share knowledge, challenge others, exchange ideas, and improve techniques. Lisa has always seen the possibility in everything and will help you do that too. As new ideas, techniques and challenges are presented to her, you will hear her say, “I want to do that!”
