Policies and FAQs:
When you register I will need your full name, the student’s full name (if different), a phone number where you can be reached by voice or text, and your email address. I will use emails and texts to communicate.
The $60.00 Deposit paid at registration guarantees your spot in the class. In order to receive a refund of your deposit, you must give me a minimum of two weeks notice prior to your last class.
At the beginning of each month I email tuition invoices. Tuition is due by the first class each month. I accept Zelle, PayPal, cash or check; my Zelle address and PayPal address are included on the invoice. If you choose to pay using PayPal or Square; there will be an added fee of $5.00 per payment to cover the processing fee.
Tuition is prorated to reflect the number of lessons in that month and includes a supply fee of $2.50 per week with a maximum of $10 per month. Most months include 4 lessons (so tuition will be $110), for a 3 lesson month tuition is $82.50 and for a 5 lesson month tuition is $135.
Tuition includes a $10 monthly supply fee which the Art House will use to purchase ceramic supplies such as glazes. Tuition also covers instruction, use of Art House tools, equipment, and glazes, as well as firing for 12 pots^. Students can purchase clay from the instructor or from a ceramic supply store - please speak to the instructor before buying clay from an outside source. Tuition is prorated based on the number of weeks in a month (i.e., 3 week month = $82.50, 4 week month = $110.00, 5 week month = $135.00)
^If you fire more than 12 pots in a month there will be a separate firing fee. For pots larger than 150 cubic inches there will be an oversize fee based on the cubic inches of your piece.
What if I miss a class?
If you miss a class you can schedule a make-up class outside of your regular class time. Generally students can come during my Thursday afternoon class or they can bring a friend (at least 16 years old) to a future Friday class for their make-up. You must make arrangements in advance for a make-up so that the classroom does not get to crowded during lessons.
In general, I follow the MISD school calendar, taking major holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving off. My classes generally run year-round, so my students can keep throwing through the summer. In case of a last minute class cancellation (i.e., due to weather), I will try to communicate at least 1 hour before class starts via email. If you are traveling a long distance to class, please use your best judgement and do not travel if it seems unsafe to do so. In cases where you miss class you can schedule a make-up. In cases where I must cancel class, you will receive a credit toward your next month’s tuition.
What Should I Bring? What Should I Wear?
Just bring yourself, we have all the tools and equipment you will need. You (or your child) are going to get dirty - muddy even. Please wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable and that you don’t mind getting dirty, possibly even stained. The clay that I have available for student purchase is white and should not stain, but some dark clays, stains, and glazes may stain clothing permanently.
THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND FLEXIBILITY AND FOR MAKING THE MCKINNEY ART HOUSE SO UNIQUE AND SPECIAL.
