Alternative Mixed Media Camp - camp enrollment limited

A fun and diverse camp for students who enjoy creating with new and unusual materials. Some of the projects will be bottle cap charms (along with a project to showcase the charms), polymer clay creations, decorating objects with 3D textures and a tie dye lesson without dye! All materials provided.

           Time:     9:00 AM - NOON
          Ages:     8 - 12 years
           Cost:    $125 includes all supplies

Projects include       drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture and more!  Students will   learn new techniques and expand their creativity while making beautiful works of art.  Students will feel comfortable in a non-competitive environment while receiving one-on-one guidance to insure success.   Camp is taught by artist/degreed teacher Alana Balch.  Teacher in MISD for 5 years/12 years experience.

Explore the creative possibilities of clay!  Kids will get lots of individual attention as they make projects designed to teach them the basics and develop their creativity.  We will learn basic throwing techniques, hand building, and how to use the slab roller. 

           Time:     9 AM - 12 Noon
          Ages:     6 - 13
           Cost:    $125 plus $10 firing fee (includes all art supplies)

Summer Classical Art for Kids - Session I
class size limited

Designed for young children, this unique curriculum introduces a student to the basic elements of color and composition, 2D and 3-D, through a variety of media, including paint (tempera), paper collage (inspired by Matisse), clay, and block printing.  Color mixing and composition are taught through games and hands on experience.  Masterpieces of art are introduced with action games that stimulate memory response.  The perfect follow-up is “Classical Art for Kids” taught during the fall/spring sessions at the McKinney Art House.  Individualized instruction and advancement increases as children continue through multiple sessions.  In other words, if they love art, don’t stop studying it! 

Early registration is encouraged, as class sizes are very limited.

Students experience pulp making, casting and pulling sheets of paper. Pulled sheets will be bound into a journal. Camp is taught by Cate Robbins MA from Texas Women's University.

Drawing Animals - 8 students

In a step by step process, students will learn how to use simple shapes, proportion and scale to draw pictures of wild and domestic animals. The drawings will be colored using a variety of media or used as a template for more complex projects. Individual skill levels will be taken into account to ensure an enjoyable and productive experience.

Famous Influences - Clay Camp - Limited to 10 students

We will be creating 3-4 projects using various hand-building techniques. Children will learn about famous artists and their works as inspiration for their projects. The emphasis will be placed on form, function, and of course fun!

This camp is designed for students who love to detail their work. Emphasis will be placed on the quality in the details rather than quantity.  Projects will include an animal sculpture, building your own house (not actual size!) and a project of the artist’s choice. Expect 3 to 4 projects from this class.
