Robin's bio:
I've been involved in some aspect of art for over 30 years. Educated in
Illinois and Texas, my first focus as a trained artist was on painstakingly
detailed watercolor florals. I had dabbled in crafts, interior
decorating (with custom made furnishings) and sewing my own wardrobe.
Photography was important, too, as a took a lot of reference photos that
later we incorporated into my paintings. I did a lot of graphic design which
also included a gig doing t-shirt design and color separation
(pre-computerized) for silk-screening. I branched out to stained glass, silk
painting and basket weaving.
In
2006, I had my first spin (pun intended) at throwing on the wheel at the
McKinney Art House. Within a short time I was pushing the envelope on
beginner
projects and branched out to more advanced techniques like majolica and
raised surface designs. I was hooked! I waver back and forth from practicing
with modified thrown pieces to experimenting with finishing techniques.
I have taught art to all ages in workshops, week long camps and private lessons. It's always invigorating to be a part of these learning experiences because I take away lessons from the students even as I teach them. And I believe everyone has the ability to create some type of art. They just have to be open to experimenting and keep trying, and it'll will come to them. It's a blessing to be able to help them unearth that talent.
I feel being involved with other artists and immersed in artist communities is necessary for my personal growth. And now that art is back in focus in my life I hope to be a lifelong learner.
